SUZIE'S MY OH MY CHERRY PIE HAT (C)

Used to be in February all the bakeries and restaurants featured cherry pie. Do they still do that? It was to honor the legend of George Washington, the hatchet and the cherry tree. I cannot tell a lie, the story has been debunked. Shoot, why do people have to take the fun out of everything?

So in honor of George, the hatchet and the cherry tree, my hat for February is a cherry pie. See the fluted crust topped with a pile of cherries?

Thanks go to Jo in NY for testing the pattern.

MY BEADED PLAYING CARD CASE (C)

I'm giving playing cards as a gift to friend who's a card playing maniac and wanted something different for her to store them. So crocheted this little case.

Then I thought, for Valentine's Day this little case is just the right size for a box of Conversation Hearts. There are probably other candies that would fit as well.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn approximately 1 oz
33 pony beads
I crochet hook
Yarn needle
5/8 inch button

NOTES:
1. Read instructions through before beginning.
2. When working in rounds, without joining, mark the start of each round with a marker. A bobby pin is a good marker. I don’t usually use a marker, I just judge it by the tail left over after crocheting round 1.
3. PB = place bead. This You Tube video is very good at showing how to place beads in single crochet:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI-ocOA3o7M

INSTRUCTIONS:

String 33 beads on yarn before beginning.

Ch 10

ROUND 1: Make 2 sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in each chain (7) to last chain, working over yarn tail for remainder of this round, 3 sc in last ch, work in opposite side of starting chain and sc in each of 8 chain stitches. DO NOT join rounds. [20 sc]ROUND 2: 2 sc in first sc of round 1, sc in next 9 sts, 2 sc in center st of 3 sc group, sc in 9 sts. [22 sc]

ROUNDS 3-4: Sc in each sc. [22 sc]

ROUND 5: *Sc in 1 st, PB in next st. Repeat from * 11 times. [22 sc]

ROUNDS 6-7: Sc in each st. [22 sc]

ROUND 8: *Sc in 1 st, PB in next st. Repeat from * 11 times. [22 sc]

ROUNDS 9-10: Sc in each st. [22 sc]

ROUND 11: *Sc in 1 st, PB in next st. Repeat from * 11 times. [22 sc]

ROUNDS 12-15: Sc in each st. [22 sc]

ROUND 16: Insert box of playing cards into case. The 15th round should come very near the top of the box. Mark the st at the right back corner of box. Remove box and sc around until 1 st before marked st. Slip stitch in that st and marked st. Ch 1, turn.

BUTTON FLAP: Worked over 9 sts

Row 1:
Sc in 2 slip stitches, sc in 7 sc. Ch 1, turn. (9 sc)

Row 2-6: Sc in 9 sc. Ch 1, turn. (9 sc)
